2018 was a huge year for the gaming community: instant classics and favourites have already been introduced, and the year isn't even over yet! Aside from established favourites such as “Far Cry”, “God of War” and “Monster Hunter”, there’s also enthralling new titles such as “Detroit Become Human” from Quantic Dreams and the chilly Survival Strategy game “Frostpunk” from 11 Bit Studios.

We’ve searched for the highest-rated 2018 releases for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and created the perfect list of must-haves for those not-so-sunny summer days.

The action-adventure game Detroit Become Human from the French video game developer Quantic Dreams has been available for the PlayStation 4 since its release at the end of May 2018. Quantic Dreams is also responsible for titles like Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit, which allow players to change and customise the entire plot of the game through the use of free-will and decision-making mechanics.

The phenomenal graphics allow players to feel like they are actors in an interactive film. This effect is due to the implementation of motion-capture technology, which makes use of real-life actors’ movements while filming segments for the game.

As for the plot: this emotional science-fiction drama takes place in the year 2038, in which humans and androids live side by side. Intense themes such as racism, domestic violence and child abuse help shape the story, which is why this game is appropriate for players 18 years and older.

The new God of War is the eighth instalment of the series and is only available on the PlayStation 4. The plot is a continuation of the 2010 God of War 3 story. Kratos has become a mentor for his son Atreus after the conflict with his own father, Zeus, and the destruction of Olympus. However, living as a man in the land of Norse gods and monsters is a constant fight. This action-adventure offers breathtaking graphics, a legendary story inspired by Norse mythology and merciless battles with an amazing combat system. If you’re a fan of the God of War series, this new release won’t disappoint!

The fifth game in the Far Cry series tells the story of a fanatical doomsday cult: Eden’s Gate. The game is, like previous instalments, an action-filled open world first-person shooter for ages 18 and over. The game was released at the end of March and is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Your goal: rise up and start a resistance against Eden’s Gate and its members. Players must complete different missions and get enough resistance points to defeat the cult. The campaign can either be played in single-mode or co-op. Throughout the game, you can recruit help from interesting characters such as Adelaide Drubman, a helicopter pilot, or even a bear named Cheeseburger.

The new open-world racing game The Crew 2 offers the excitement of a racing game with the addition of a beautiful landscape. Whether you prefer vehicles on the land, in the air or on the water, you’ll have a gigantic map throughout which you can race, drive and discover freely. Best of all: no loading time! You can participate in road racing, pro-racing, offroading or freestyle mode in four different worlds. Additionally, there are options for single and multiplayer racing as well as competitive or cooperative rally raid events. The game was released at the end of June and is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

A Way Out is a unique action-adventure game with a third-person shooter element. The game can only be played in cooperative, or co-op mode: best played with a friend!

There is no random online matchmaking function, which means players must play with contacts in their friends' list. However, a local two-player experience or an online-splitscreen are both available. A Way Out can be played on PlayStation 4Xbox One and PC. The plot tells the tale of two prison inmates who, at first glance, couldn’t be more different. Together, they must plan a prison escape and solve puzzles and problems through coordination and teamwork. The missions involve aspects of investigation, riddle-solving, combat and escape sequences.
