Can you hardly wait for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald? We'll show you the perfect way to prepare for the upcoming film with family and friends.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: How to Bridge the Wait-time for the Next Film

This mid-March, Harry Potter fans worldwide finally got to see the trailer for Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the second film in the Fantastic Beasts saga. The screenplay is once again written by J.K. Rowling and promises a brilliant return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry, Ron and Hermione are of course nowhere to be found in the film; instead, the story is set in 1927 and focuses on the main character Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). The film series will include five instalments, spanning 16 years of Magizoologist Scamander’s life and work. Audience members can expect an exciting, all-encompassing new perspective on the magical world introduced in the beloved Harry Potter series.

The tension between Hogwarts and Ilvermorny builds…

Like the first film, Crimes of Grindelwald is directed by David Yates. In addition to the recurring characters Newt Scamander, Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), Jacob Kowalski (Dan Folger) and Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), audience members can expect to be introduced to more interesting, new personalities. Most fans already know: a young version of Albus Dumbledore, the wise headmaster of Hogwarts and grandfather figure to many, will be played by Jude Law. Another treat: Credence Barebone, a fan-favourite played by the captivating Ezra Miller, will make a comeback in this sequel

Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald will be released in the United Kingdom on November 16th, 2018. Can’t wait? Neither can we! That’s why we took the time to create the perfect checklist to help you prepare for your second Fantastic Beasts cinematic adventure.

Movie Night Prep: How about a costume?

Plan on having a dress code for your movie night? If so, now is the time to start searching for a costume. In the 21st century, women can also feel free to get dressed up as Newt Scamander (and men as Tina Goldstein!); this costume allows exactly that by offering size options for all genders. Don’t forget: the wand, not included, is a mandatory part of the outfit! But prices and quality vary across the board.

Maybe you’re creative and would like to sew the costume yourself? The Etsy Shop Erikas Chiquis offers plenty of affordable costume patterns which you can use to create an individual Newt Scamander costume which fits you perfectly. You can even buy Newt Scamander’s wand in order to complete the look.

The Harry Potter fandom has come so far; even muggles are able to buy Hogwarts textbooks! Scamander’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is, naturally, mandatory reading. There’s an official Hogwarts Library Book version as well as the version we’ve featured, which includes beautiful illustrations from Olivia Lomenech Gill.

For the diehard fans: “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” and “Quidditch Through the Ages” are also available. These are especially wonderful for fans of the original Harry Potter films and book series.

As a genuine Potterhead, it’s essential to know which Hogwarts house you belong to and which Patronus you would cast. Pottermore is an online platform created by J.K. Rowling and her team, on which they post regular background stories and news in the world of Harry Potter and Newt Scamander. Once you open an account, the sorting hat will place you into one of the four Hogwarts and/or Ilvermorny houses, you’ll get your Patronus, and find out which wand chooses you.

Our opinion: the easiest way to get into Newt’s world is with a little background story.

Two different adventurous opportunities await you in the realm of free to play games: Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and Fantastic Beasts: Cases. The Harry Potter game has been the focus of a lot of backlashes and further updates are certainly necessary, but critics rest assured: the Fantastic Beasts version has gained a lot of popularity. The detailed graphics and polished up levels are particularly praiseworthy.

Due to its popularity and fitting theme, we recommend Fantastic Beast: Cases, also available on Google Play, to get in the right mood and mindset for the upcoming film.

Always classic: a movie night with friends to dive into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter together. Delicious recipes, costumes (see above), and most importantly: lots of fun. After you’ve invited all your friends with your fancy stationery via post (or owl!), the big day has arrived.

The most important part of a movie night? The movie, of course. Either a friend can bring the film along or you can purchase it yourself.

The film can also be viewed and purchased via Amazon Prime, in case you don’t own a Blu-ray or DVD player. A charming addition to your viewing experience: this Remote Control Wand. No one will question your power (or when you decide to press pause or change the volume) with this magical remote.

In order to prepare the perfect Potter film night, the host should provide appropriately themed food and decorations. We recommend cooking per “The Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook” by Dinah Buchholz. As a true fan of the Potter Universe, Buchholz has researched, gathered and tested recipes from Molly Weasley, Hagrid and co. in this extensive Potter culinary collection.

We can recommend the chocolate cake from Harry Potter’s first birthday, Brussel sprouts with chestnuts and a selection of pumpkin recipes. If you aren’t sure that this cookbook is the right one for you, check out some of the recipes on the Google Books preview and give some of them a try.

These Fantastic Beasts soy-based candles instantly create a cosy atmosphere with a delicious fruity fragrance of forest berries, amber and cedar.

But of course, that’s just the start: get inspired by decorations at karaspartyideas.com, though the author’s style is more focused on child birthday decorations. For those who would like some official inspiration: Pottermore has a great guide to throwing the ultimate Harry Potter Party which can easily be tweaked to fit a Newt Scamander themed party.

We’re a fan of this pretty cool (albeit pretty expensive) snack box, which includes: Bertie Bott’s Every Flavoured Beans, Butterbeer, Chocolate Frogs and Gummy Slugs. Fred and George Weasley would be proud.

For those who don’t want to pay too much, there are plenty of other options. For example, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavoured Beans can be purchased separately in standard packaging. A circus-style pack can also be bought separately, though it costs a bit more.

The most practical and cost-effective option: DIY chocolate frogs! Use these Frog Silicone Baking Moulds from BONYTAIN to either bake or create your own chocolate frog treats. All you have to do: just heat up some chocolate in a water bath and pour the liquid chocolate into the mould. After a little cooling time, your first round of chocolate frogs should be ready to enjoy.

After such a long wait (snacks included) and a fantastic cinematic experience, it can be difficult to return to the cold, hard no-maj/muggle reality. If you’d like to experience a bit of magical nostalgia, we recommend the original screenplay The Crimes of Grindelwald. It’s a great way to concentrate on the finer details of the story and see if you caught all of the references to the Harry Potter universe.
