The Perfect Garden Party
This summer has been one of the hottest in the past couple of years. That doesn’t only mean perfect tans, watermelon, and outdoor adventures on the weekend: it’s also time to throw the perfect garden party! A garden party is a perfect opportunity to get your friends and family gathered in a low-key, laid-back environment. With a little decoration, a fitting theme and the right culinary selection, your afternoon or evening should be a huge success.
How can you make your garden party unforgettable?
As a rule of thumb, planning and preparation are always important. To streamline the process, make an extensive checklist of important tasks and items to buy in order to avoid forgetting any essentials. Also remember to let your neighbours know that you’re throwing a party (or invite them, if you get along just fine), in order to avoid any complaints about noise later on.
While an interesting theme is always fun for any kind of party, it certainly doesn’t make finding the right decorations any easier. However, a fancy dress party or something similarly silly may give some rather shy guests an easy, obvious topic to chat about amongst one another. It’s also important to make sure your guests feel comfortable: come rain, sunshine, or cold! If it begins to get cold and dark, be sure to have plenty of comfy pillows or outdoor blankets on hand. And of course, a waterproof outdoor enclosure in case it rains!
What else could one possibly need to throw the perfect backyard bash? Well, here at comprigo we have created a checklist, just for you!
At a garden party, a good grill is simply indispensable. Some swear by charcoal, others by gas grills.
For a garden party, we recommend the Campingaz Gas BBQ 3 Series Woody LX. It has three high-performance stainless steel burners, electronic ignition, and an enamelled warming rack. It is also particularly easy to clean and has an attractive trolley made of Acacia wood.
Restaurants and bars have been using string lights for years to create a cosy atmosphere for customers. Warm lighting, in particular, gives off a campfire feeling, creating a generally calm and comfortable vibe. A lot of people enjoy using light chains as decoration all year round, not just for garden parties! The most energy-effective and environmentally-friendly string lights are solar powered.
This chain of lights from Plaights has a silver wire with 100 micro LEDs which give off a warm white light. The cable is super flexible and can be attached on or draped anywhere in your garden, even on bushes and trees for long periods of time. Battery charging time is 8 to 10 hours, LEDs will go out after 6 to 8 hours of use. And at such a low price, it’s a bargain to buy even more than one!
A good way of getting your guests to mingle with each other is to create an easy place to always come back to. This works great with comfortable seating areas as well as standing tables. Create an area where groups can always come back to or at which individuals can easily go from one group to the next.
To ensure that your guests aren’t always running back and forth to grab the next beverage, invest in a rolling cooler. We love this option from Blumfeldt: it offers 80 litres of drink storage, quality cooling capacity, and even a bottle opener!
A little extra decoration goes a long way - besides, it’s fun to prepare your beautiful yard for your guests! There’s a large selection of decorations which tend to get thrown away during clean up, so we don’t suggest spending a lot of money on this aspect of your party.
This diverse set of decorations includes paper fans, pom poms, lanterns and honeycomb balls: all in fun colours!
Oftentimes a party host has to decide between reusable and disposable utensils or dishes; this mostly depends on factors such as the number of guests and level of budget (as well as a number of helping hands in the kitchen afterwards!). While some people might go for disposable plastic dishes, we think that an environmentally-friendly approach might be best.
For example, these bowls made out of palm leaves are chic and completely compostable; this also signals to your party guests your environmentally-conscience yet stylish way of throwing a garden bash.
At the end of the party, simply have guests throw their used bowls in the compost or in an organic waste container.
Even the biggest summer fans enjoy having a cool drink in the shade now and again. For those celebrating in their own backyard, we’ve found a parasol that’s perfect for providing sun protection as well as a dash of decoration. Spanning 3 metres, more than a few guests can have a chat or drink under this parasol. For a traditional garden party, we suggest this Banana Parasol from VonHaus for its classic, subtle design.
If you invest in a hammock, you can not only enjoy lounging in it on your own; party guests will love to hang out here, as well (sorry about the cheesy joke…). If you don't happen to have two sturdy trees, you’ll be happy to learn that there are plenty of free-standing hammocks. During our selection process for the ultimate garden party checklist, we decided that a good hammock should have a stable wooden frame, a large surface area to lie on, and should be easy to assemble. Our top choice: this XL Deluxe Hammock from AS-S.
